Unicorn derives its name from our first location, a small but wildly popular bistro in Vietnam that opened over thirty years ago under the name Ka’lin, meaning “Chinese unicorn.” In 2001, the family extended its gastronomic talents to this continent by opening Unicorn in Berkeley, which garnered rave reviews for its authentic and inspired Asian cuisine. This success encouraged the opening of what is perhaps the culmination of our aesthetic and culinary vision: the Unicorn Pan-Asian restaurant in San Francisco.

 

The philosophy behind the food and ambiance at Unicorn has an equally flavorful history. We do not strive to be everything to everyone. We prepare delicious Asian dishes our way, cuisine from the Mekong delta in South Vietnam to the coastal reaches of Southern China. By their nature, Asian dishes require only the highest quality, local ingredients and Unicorn takes full advantage of California’s bounty of organically grown culinary delights to deliver on that promise in every bite of flavor and freshness.
